What to do with so many credit card offers?

Just browse through the daily newspaper and you will be overwhelmed by the number of credit card offers advertised. Take a walk around town and you will find credit card offers advertised everywhere. The same goes for television, which also seems to have a lot of credit card offers. So, credit card offers are everywhere. Why are there so many credit card offers? Well, quite simply because the credit card business is a highly profitable business for credit card providers.

In this case, with no shortage of credit card offers, which is the best credit card offer?

Actually, nothing is more important than the best credit card offer. A better question is – “Which credit card offer is the best for me? One person’s spending habits are different from another person’s spending habits. Their lifestyles are different and therefore their needs are different. Therefore, to decide which credit card offer is best for you, you need to assess your needs based on your lifestyle and spending habits (rather than just listening to other people’s recommendations). For example, if you travel frequently by air, a co-branded airline credit card may be better for you than a general purpose credit card. These airline credit cards offer discounts, rebates and other kinds of rewards when you pay with the credit card (and even higher rewards when these credit cards are used to pay for airline tickets or other airline products). Similarly, if you have a favorite retail store where you do a lot of shopping, it would be helpful to check to see if that retailer is also a credit card provider and if there are credit card offers that are right for you. Many large retail chains do offer co-branded credit cards to their customers, and these credit cards offer rebates/discounts, etc. when paying at the retailer. Therefore, you will get reward points wherever you pay, but the rewards will be higher when you pay at a retail store. In a similar vein, we also have credit cards for gas stations and grocery stores, so if you have a favorite gas station or a favorite grocery store, you can choose it.

So, if you look around, you’ll find plenty of lucrative credit card offers. However, this does not mean that you sign up for all credit card offers. You need to first assess your needs and rank them. Then, you need to evaluate which credit card offers fit your needs. Finally, you can make your choice and select a credit card offer that covers most of your needs and offers the most benefits.
