Southwest Airlines Credit Card

The Southwest Airlines credit card is a good example of a co-branded credit card. Southwest Airlines and Chase have teamed up to bring you the Southwest Airlines Credit Card. At the time of this writing, there are two popular Southwest Airlines cards, also collectively known as the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Visa Card. One of the Southwest Airlines credit cards is for personal use (this is known as the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Visa Signature Card) and the other Southwest Airlines credit card is for business use. Both of these Southwest Airlines credit cards are designed to get you round-trip rewards faster.

There are many ways to earn rewards points with the Southwest Airlines credit card. The Southwest Airlines credit card has two types of rewards points, which are available in two denominations – Rapid Rewards points and Rapid Rewards dollars. Rapid Rewards Points are a much higher denomination of rewards compared to Rewards Dollars (for example, at the time of this writing, $1,200 in rewards equals 1 Rapid Rewards Point).

So, how do you earn and redeem Southwest Airlines credit card reward points?

After you make your first purchase with your Southwest Airlines credit card, you’ll get reward points. These purchases do not need to be Southwest Airlines products/services, these can be any purchases made with a Southwest Airlines credit card. You can earn reward dollars for any purchase you make with your Southwest Airlines credit card. There are additional reward dollars when you use your Southwest Airlines credit card with Southwest Airlines (i.e., when you use your Southwest Airlines credit card to make a purchase on a Southwest Airlines product/service). By extra, we mean that the reward amount is greater compared to other non-Southwest Airlines purchases. As you keep collecting reward dollars, you keep getting closer to earning round-trip rewards. Generally, round-trip rewards are based on Rapid Rewards points. Therefore, you can convert the rewards earned on your Southwest Airlines credit card into Rapid Rewards points; and convert the Rapid Rewards points into your round-trip rewards. Another way to earn Rapid Rewards points on your Southwest Airlines credit card is through a balance transfer.

The Southwest Airlines credit card is certainly a good option for those who travel frequently on Southwest Airlines flights. Since Southwest’s network is quite extensive, you’ll find that you’ll be able to get Southwest flights to most places you want to go, thus having the opportunity to use your Southwest credit card to earn rewards points (or reward dollars, as they call them).
